Position Title: Marketing Coordinator
Reports To: Shape Up Sugar Land Board of Directors
Scope of Position:
The individual in this role shall be the liaison to the Mayor’s Fitness Council and coordinate market research, focus group, and strategy and business plan for the State grant that has been awarded to the City of Sugar Land. This individual shall function as day-to-day contact for the City of Sugar Land and Shape up Sugar Land (SUSL) Board of Directors. This individual shall be responsible for overseeing the mission and purpose of Shape up Sugar Land organization, finance and accounting, business plan development, and start up operations, management and reporting, training and day-to-day operations of the Mayor’s Fitness Council for the City of Sugar Land. This person shall also collaborate on a team basis with the City of Sugar Land and Shape up Sugar Land. The primary responsibility of this individual will be to develop, start up and manage the fitness and wellness initiatives and assessments determined by the Mayor’s Fitness Council and ensure the program becomes sustainable.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Ø Develop the short-term (3 month) and long term (annual) plans for the Mayor’s Fitness Council to assure the successful implementation and achievement of the formal business, implementation and strategic plans.
Ø Oversee and direct the selection and procurement of all market research, service suppliers, contractors and equipment vendors.
Ø Collaborate on a team basis with the City, Mayor’s Fitness Council and SUSL to identify and develop plans and assessments for health, fitness and wellness for the community.
Ø Coordinates Board of Directors and committee meetings and takes minutes; and maintains board and committee forms, decision, summaries, and polices binders.
Ø Develop and oversee all programming, services, policies and procedures.
Ø Manage and direct all finance and accounting functions for the organization. This would include the proper and timely reporting of results to board and the City, the timely performance of the annual audit and all other related accounting and financing requirements.
Ø On a schedule to be determined, establish a timeline and schedule and program plan for the development of community fitness and wellness programs.
Ø Assess market research, focus groups and wellness best practices.
Ø Establish a collaborative framework that earns a reputation among the City’s corporate community as successful and highly desirable.
Ø Ensure standards, quality and committee practices so services and communications are consistently delivered.
Ø Duties include strategic management of a visible, state and city recognized health and wellness plans and programs.
Ø Serve as an active member of the SUSL and Sugar Land Mayors’ Fitness Council.
Ø All other duties as defined by the City, Mayor’s Fitness Council and SUSL for the scope of work.
Recommended Professional Requirements:
Excellent communication, analytical, web and social networking interpersonal, marketing and customer service skills are essential. Market research, feasibility business plan expertise and new business development experience is critical. Wellness experience and track record is preferred. Market research and community wellness experience is recommended.
A critical perspective and an ability to provide committee leadership to a variety of opportunities, challenges and new program start up. Expertise in wellness and health promotion is recommended. History of presentations and professional speaking experience is preferred. Dynamic leadership and communication skills, high energy and results oriented professional with community wellness record is recommended.
Skills: Applicants must have a wide range of administrative and communication skills as well as practical business skills.

• Competency in word processing, databases, and email (Word, Excel, Access, Outlook)
• Organizational skills to organize, monitor, and track numerous activities throughout the year
• Ability to logically solve problems with little supervision

Compensation
Compensation for this position is being funded through a grant that has been received by the City of Sugar Land. For the initial phase (April through August 2010), it is anticipated that the individual will work on a contract basis in the development of the plan. Phase II will begin in September 2010 and a part-time salary will be negotiated during the hiring process with expectations to grow into full time position with grants and other source funding.
